Due to dry conditions, the snow
situation in the Northern Sierra backcountry was quite inadequate
for general ski touring. The Eagle Lakes basin would still allow
some hiking, with a dusting only on Old Man Mountain (7,789'),
seen ahead here. Photos taken November 19, 2000, by Petesthousandpeaks.
Castle Peak (9,103'), here seen
from the Donner Summit rest area, seemed devoid of enough snow
for good backcountry skiing.
