DUNDERBERG PEAK (12, 374’) July 8, 1978

Another trip run by the local peak bagging section, I had signed up. With the usual carpooling and dining ops, we met at the Virginia Lakes Trailhead. With an overnight trip planned, we were taken to a lake destination. Then to day climb the first goal, Dunderberg Peak. We all had ice axes, but one moron refused to deploy his. On his pack instead of being ready for possible use, he was allowed to continue with the group.

Good views appeared, and we made it to the top. With notable club officials, I captured photos. After lunch we went back down. I recall supporting glissading, but I can’t remember if the others did likewise.

Somewhere in there, young children were shampooing in a pristine lake. As they were admonished for polluting, they tried to splash out the soap. Moronics, totally preventable, if the participants had been advised properly, and educated.

The next day, we bagged Excelsior Mountain. Then packing out, it was fine weather over the weekend. Another in a series of peak bagging trips, later all to be banned.
