VEGAS DAY THREE November 13, 2020

Lone Mountain (3,342') 3X

The day started early with the download and installation of the new OS. With slow Wi-Fi at the apartment, this took hours. Finally done, it was to savor the flavor. Cool new interface, and for free!

With back-up and other things to do, I lingered at the place. No new phone that I want was available, except for a low trade-in value, so I’d wait a week. I put the phone on sale, hoping for a buyer locally. The former near best phone in the world, and likely no one wants it.

Then to head for the day’s destination, to check out Lone Mountain on my 3X. Using the car navigator, I quickly arrived to Lone Mountain Park. Walking about to get my bearings, it’s changed since 2013. New trails, and a loop about the peak, in addition to a couple new parking areas for hikers.

Seeing a likely direct route with trail, I asked people about it, and they didn’t know anything. With exploration in mind, I took the steep, rubbly trail, to find it went to some caves with graffiti. No easy scrambling possible to the top, this way, with cliffs, so I turned back. This took up an hour, and I looked at my Watch to see how far I had gone.

With time, I sought to repeat the easy way with a trail. This route circles about the north side of the peak, with improvements now. Getting to the trail, I clambered up the rocks and route further. Green spray paint marked the route and use trail, but I quickly gained the summit.

Other hikers were capturing their summit photos, so I started with my own photos and videos. I only had a T on, with no water, though a small pack. Cool and slightly breezy, I sought to get back. Other hikers were coming up, though with warmer clothes, and I got back to the circle loop road at the base.

Finding that it goes about the peak, I took it south (counterclockwise). There’s now a new paved parking lot on the side with the use trail to bag the peak, with an outhouse. With the sunset light on the distant peaks, I did it again. Keeping screenshots by my workout app on my Watch, this is a nice afternoon winter peak bag, with views of the Strip high rises to be captured by zoom or telephoto lens.

Getting the directions for the ramen house, I got caught in a traffic jam due to a crash on U. S. 95 south. They had filled up by the time that I got there, as then they said not busy. I signed the list to wait for maybe 15 minutes with wind. Then getting a table, I had two cans of diet soda, as I had nothing to drink for hours and during the hike. I ordered ramen at $9.50 for a regular sized bowl, and slurped it down. I left a good tip, as I got service.

Motoring home, I got to downloads on the new OS, and I felt great. Then to upload the photos with text, this was good. With the software and computer better than ever, it was actually ecstasy. I had smart water as I typed and posted, and did my webwork. A nice easy day, with computer work to be better than ever. With music playing, I sure enjoyed this.
