Up so early as usual, I made my preparations for my trip. I delayed leaving, due to items to get by delivery. I wanted my new ultra light sleeping bag, for the peak hikes. Instead of multiple jackets, if I was immobilized, it’d keep me warm enough, at least in summer. Deciding to do it, I packed the stuff into my car, and left in the dark, headed north on U. S. 95.
To Interstate 80, I zoomed along eastbound. A surprise to me, was the new 80 mph speed limit. I made good time, and barely made it on one charge to the Elko Supercharger. With only miles left on my range, I was happy to get there. The nearby 24/7 restaurant was closed, so I tried for some food and drink elsewhere. At the nearby supermarket, I got some drink, and used the restroom.
Off to Wells, NV, I took U. S. 93 northbound. Mostly plain scenery, but I continued to capture the views ahead. To Twin Falls, ID, I found the Superchargers, and had to ask where it was at the nearby mall. By the Snake River viewpoint visitor center, I took photos and paid a visit. The attendant was friendly, and spoke of the base jumping here from the bridge. The only place in the USA where it is legal. With only 500 feet to deploy their chutes, they do hang and then drop. Some jumpers were handling their chutes, but I didn’t have time to wait about. I got the first of my souvenirs, with two T shirts and blueberry jam.
Then to zoom eastward on Interstate 84. Getting to Interstate 15, I exited to use a rest area, then to deposit the $5 self pay fee, to see Register Rock Historic Site. Not taking long there, it was to head north for my bargain motel in Pocatello. Supercharged that night, I ate from my cooler. Then to savor being on my first vacation road trip in years, with my now zero emissions. I made my plans for the next day, using Maps and other information. Great to have a good laptop, as it can be easier to view.
