NEVADA PEAKS CLUB QUALIFYING LIST

There are 73 peaks on this list. Many of the peaks on this list have more difficult terrain which may require advanced knowledge to maintain proper route navigation. There are a number of applicable guidebooks available. Only eleven of these peaks (1.6, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 3.1, 4.18, 5.5, 5.6, 6.3, 6.4, and 6.5) can be approached on paved road. Many of the others will require a high-clearance or a four-wheel drive vehicle. Contact the local ranger stations for current information, and please obtain the best available topographic maps for reference.

Most of these peaks can easily be located on the Bureau of Land Management, 1:500,000 scale, State of Nevada topographic map available for $7.00 (1998) at the BLM offices in Reno or Las Vegas.

PLEASE be advised that the range highpoints for the Hot Creek Range (Morey Peak), the Pine Forest Range (Duffer Peak), and the Granite Range (Granite Peak south) apparently do not coincide with the points affixed with the peak name, on the maps. Also, Muddy Peak (5,432') is not the range highpoint of the Muddy Mountains. There are other such inconsistencies.

As a precaution, you are advised to bag both the point affixed with the peak name as well as the range highpoint. We have no control over any future decisions by the USGS or BGN to rename points. With the possible exceptions of the Jackson Mountains, Pine Forest Range and the Muddy Mountains, the two separate points (peak and range highpoint) are not very far apart.
