The
traditional spots of Eastern Sierra fall color viewing were knowingly
disappointing, for me, this year. This dry season contributes
to the leaves simply drying up and falling, and not all turning
good yellow and gold as they might normally do.
Here, at a highway stop along Highway CA 88, the best reds are seen near this private Sierra home. Stevens Peak (10,061') rises in the background.
The
June Lake Loop, CA 158, some of the best color viewing in the
eastern High Sierra, was not displaying very good turning. Maybe
more time will allow for better colors.
