To Reno, NV, January 19-21, 2021

NEAR END OF MY DESERT ROAD TRIP January 18-22, 2021

My stay at the Las Vegas rental apartment was ending and I had to leave. Up at 1:15 a.m., Monday, I lounged about, packing my things into the car. I had three large to medium boxes, full of my souvenirs. Since it was a Monday holiday, the Post Office was closed. Other shippers wanted up to 8 times more. Frustrated, I fit them all into my car. I had to throw away various items, like my ancient coffeemaker. Not to lose a lot of money, but I had no room.

About 5:30 a.m., I left for the Linq Supercharger to fill up with power. Some man came up behind me and startled me. I ate some flan, and took off north on U. S. 95. I would take the scenic route, cutting west at Beatty, then through Death Valley National Park. Capturing the sight ahead, this kept me from getting bored.

To Father Crowley Overlook, I stopped with other people enjoying the view. With no traffic, I sped up to maybe 100 mph with sights ahead on CA 190/CA 138. Getting to Lone Pine, CA, I got more power at the charger. I could not get but a smoothie, as eateries were take out only.

North on U. S. 395, I enjoyed the sights with memories of Independence, CA. Stopping at rest areas, I passed through Big Pine, then Bishop, and captured what new sights of new businesses. With a short stop at the Sherwin Grade Vistapoint, the peaks were mostly bare. You could still hike many trails, by the looks of it.

To Mammoth Lakes for more power, I dealt with business with my phone, using the car as a speakerphone. It grew dark, and I had to speed it up. No stops at Lee Vining, or the Mono Lake Highway vista point. A few new things in Bridgeport, and I had to worry about deer migration, as signs warned. I had the car set for collision avoidance, but no deer appeared to see if it worked.

It was a drive to get to Reno, with the pleasure of car music. I bought a song, as the singer sustained me while I was driving. I set it for repeating, and then approached Reno, NV. To the motel, I encountered problems with the door lock. I had to get the host to get there to open it. Upset, as I was tired, having driven some 550 miles and being up since 1:15 a.m., I became angry.

I got into my room, and unloaded items. Up for awhile, I dealt with business. Important, as it was for my new home, and I had to deal with the loan process. My phone could not deal with the issue, as the website and home furnishings company was sort of moronic. Finally sending a document, the loan process would be done. With less than a week to the signing, I eventually accomplished the work.

My local storage had been locked at one location, as my credit card, being stolen, was deauthorized. Too busy to deal with it, I forgot to pay the rent with my newer credit cards. I requested them to unlock it, as I paid off the balance ASAP. Waiting over an hour, and as the phones were not working, I finally left for another storage unit. They also were not on duty at the time that I was there, as the code failed to open the unit building gate.

Today, the reason to be in Reno was a home orientation. Set for 1 p.m., I made sure to be there. My realtor was also there, and they showed me the home. Some touch up is necessary, and they marked it with blue tape. Amazing that I'd be getting this new townhome, with my 2015 move to Reno. Buying a house, I sold it for near double, then bought my house in Fallon, NV. As the neighbors were somewhat hateful, with military refusing ever to even lift a finger, despite offering help, when I moved out, I had zero help. They would not even take care of my Saturn, just to run the motor every week, for pay. So, I sold it for a loss, as I could not take two cars on the road.

On the end to this session, I stopped by the nearby supermarket, to get drink and deli chicken wings. I wondered about a pretty blonde checker, as she spoke to me, and was friendly. I did not ask, and left for the motel.

Awake at 3:30 a.m., I got a message to tell me my host did not like my words, and I would be evicted. Luckily, I did not sleep late, so I could get most everything into my car. Getting breakfast, I had time, so finally I got the right way to enter the code for my storage unit, and emptied stuff out of my car. Going back to the motel room, I retrieved my left behind items. I checked out in time, so then had to get lodging quick.

Going to the best hotel, they refused to allow check in since I did not have a physical ID. My photo of my drivers license would not be accepted, neither any other ID. Later, I found my bus disabled ID card, but they all said drivers license. Trying other casinos and hotels, I was defeated.

Phoning around, I found that my fav motel chain in Carson City would accept my cell phone photo. Saved from camping with only a 40 degree bag, with nobody to contact for assistance, I charged up at the car station, then zoomed south on I-580 to get my motel room. With no time to dine, I was getting slimmer. My pants started to fall down from about my waist, so I had to really tighten my webbing belt. Going to bed, I would be so happy when I move into my new home.

Checking out early, I had phoned about some more. I had a good breakfast at the 24/7 that has served me well. Some casino resorts would accept a photo versus a physical card. One had said no, and now another said yes. Zooming back north, I got a charge at the casino parking lot, then went in to check in. Refused, I would have to wait till 10 a.m., when the boss came out of a meeting.

About 8:30 a.m., I could not wait. Heading north on South Virginia Street, my dash cams captured the sight of the new street after a major reconstruction. With traffic circles, and a larger sidewalk, it was not so much now as a teen drag strip.

To the Row, I parked my car, and walked through to see about the hotel check in. They would accept the photo, as they said. Happy, I charged up some near $600 for three nights. Though in a rush, I used a travel website to make my reservation, so maybe spent a little more than with the hotel website. Pleased, I got my car, drove around to the hotel loading zone, registered, and got my room card, for high up on the 14th floor. I paid some guy walking by $10 for helping me unload my stuff.

Getting my things to my room, it was so deluxe. Two beds, nice, and a fantastic bathroom. I set up my tech gear, done quickly, as I did not hardly unplug anything, just to load it all into boxes. I set my Nikon for time lapse video out the window. Then to get my clothes washed, with the $2.50 (in quarters only) washer and dryer. The laundry room was next to the climbing gym, where girls did their thing. None of them were interested in my website or me. It is fee climbing, and I offered a carpool to Yosemite, but only one did that, real rock. My arms are too weak to do much of anything, as now I can not even do one chin-up.

Back to my room, as to not waste my time, I got to my webwork. I lost my mask temporarily, as I did not see it in the washer. I found it after my trip to the dryer, when I noticed it missing. Then with my washed clothes on, I got to the car in the parking garage, where I found some things that I had been missing.

With what food and drink out of my car, I ate and drank well. By 4:30 p.m., I was moved in completely. Showered and washed, rested and ready, I would get a nice dinner.

After some webwork, I readied for another great meal. They gave me too much, so I had to get a doggie bag (box). Dessert was too good to pass up, so I ordered it as take-out. The service was great, and the meal was superb, so I tipped $10. Not too many diners, and all wore masks. No Heineken 0.0 or even Bud Zero in the bar. Back to my room, I had the best water in the world in the hotel provided cup. The room has a mini-fridge, so I used it for the food. It also chills my diet soda and bottled water.

The plan is to hole up here for the time being, to see what the new variant will do. With half a million total deaths forecast by March, I want to support safety. I can get some exercise in the climbing gym, or sneak out to my car, with some local hikes.

January 22, 2021

Up early as usual, I had a really good sleep. After midnight, I woke up from an evening nap to get my washed and dried clothes out of the laundry room. They were all there, despite being unattended. I got up again at about 5 a.m., to do some webwork. Then to breakfast, where I spent $20 with a $5 tip. With my warm clothes all washed and on, I went to the garage to take off for the CA Lotto Outlet at Gold Ranch. The line was long, and it took over an hour to get my tickets for my $40 play. Up to nearly a billion, another life changing moment for me, possibly.

Then back to the Hotel, to do more webwork and hole up for the day. Lots of photos already, and I hope to sort them out better.

To get my daily exercise, I drove to North Valleys Regional Park to bag the highpoint 29X, and also to place a crude register. Usually, nobody bags this highpoint, and I'll shortly be placing a better container and book. With time, I motored to the Huffaker Hills TH to bag Twin Peaks. It looks that they built new trails, and on my way back, I took a new more direct trail.

Stopping by the casino where I had tried to lodge, they again said that they require a physical ID, and the rep who told me otherwise is outranked. Back to my hotel on Virginia Street, I extended my stay to when I get my new home. I spent $1,000+ on lodging here for just about a week. In my luxury room, I worked on my website.
