LAS VEGAS DAY FIFTY EIGHT January 7, 2021

"Dante" (5702')

Up and active really early, I had to do a cash deposit into my bank account, so drove to the ATM. Inserting bills into the ATM machine, I was short on one bank account. Still deficient as a withdrawal was made, I have to deposit more money. Deciding to do a photo shoot at FSE of the new casino, they refused to let me enter without a physical ID. I pleaded with the security but they replied that the rules are the rules. Explaining to them that I had been robbed, and that NV DMV was really slow, it was useless. I had paid $4 for parking, all a waste. then. Going to get breakfast, I decided to head for Death Valley National Park.

Getting a Supercharge at the Linq, this was done before dawn. I planned for an overnight, so packed plenty of drink with food into my cooler. Taking NV 160 west, I captured photos of the sights ahead. To Pahrump, I needed a rest break. The usual tavern was closed, but luckily there was a nearby market open just then. Buying drink, and chips, I motored on. A now overcast day, I captured the sights ahead. With a stop by the roadhead for Pyramid Peak, I chatted with some camper who had the peak in mind, someday, by him. The park campgrounds are all closed, so people dirt bag camped as they could, with some here.

Finally to Dantes View, I did the hike to the top of what I call "Dante", running video. I noted a car looking to belong to some DPS brass, with other empty cars in the view parking. Not seeing any of them, I guessed that they were doing a canyon descent.

Then zooming back down to the main road, I got to the visitor center bookstore, where I bought several souvenir items. Ranting to the ranger on duty, I do not like it that the racist outdoor club can place registers, and I am disallowed due to supposed wilderness. I went on for several minutes, but as it appears useless to appeal to such people, I left.

Driving south on the park roads, I made it to Badwater. With quick photos, I headed back north to do a short hike at Artists Palette. Hiking a small hill with views, the light was dull and overcast. I helped out some tourists with information. They appeared to be pretty ignorant of highways and road conditions.

Doing a short hike up Golden Canyon, I captured plenty of video. Then to motor north to the Daylight Pass Cutoff, and the sunset light was nice. To Beatty and the Supercharger, I had only some 20 miles of range left, but I figure it pretty well, so I do not run out of power. Getting dinner, I got notice of the charge completion in ten more minutes. Gobbling up my food, I made it back to the car, and did not have idle fees, as only one car was there.

Now dark, I stopped for donuts and drink at Cactus Springs. I then wondered about any missing persons, as the DPS brass car was left on top way past the weekend. Doing a search, I found nothing as far as their names on the Net. Supposing now that they are retired, so they must be doing a descent mid-week, so left this at that. Sometimes, there is no missing hikers report till a week after they fail to return, so I would see if there is anything about this in the news.

Back to town, I got home and to the TV for relaxing and the news. With a shower, I went to bed.

Movie clips.
