LAS VEGAS DAY FIFTY FOUR January 3, 2021

Kelso Dunes (3,300'+)

With charge already on the car, I would head today for Mojave National Preserve. Up in the early a.m., I got a carnitas plate at the taco shop. Back to bed, I was up and raring to go.

Taking Interstate 15 southbound, I liked the sight of the solar plant, with three towers now. I exited at Halloran, to get to the Dunes after stopping to chat with some cyclists. To bag the Dunes 2X, after some 30 years or what. The hike up was with many others, and though at the top, I had to wait for some maskless morons to move away, the view was superb. I did hear the singing sound as I ran down a short slope, with my phone recording, twice.

This hike took me a couple hours total, with the stats saved with my Watch. Back to the trailhead, I used the restroom. Stopping at the visitor center, I took some photos at some stop by the railroad tracks, and left to head along the Morning Star Road for Nipton, CA, and with more photos there. I gained a good angle on the solar plant, as I came to the Interstate.

To Primm, NV, I needed power, so parked at the Supercharger, and with 35 or so minutes by the car to charge, I went for dinner at the nearby casino. Ordering a burger with fries, they do not take convenience payment. The cashier was slow, and so I incurred an idle fee, but for the first time, they waive it.

Back to the Interstate, it was now night. Going to the free parking garage, I sought to get more photos of showgirls. Taking photos of what looked like new displays at the clothing shops, maybe some day, I will get good new clothes. With none available, I captured video of the fountains, and then got a shake. Losing some $55 at 21, this was not so lucky of a day. No Lady Luck today on my side, or the casino, with other losses there, is just bad luck. I sought to get a bracelet on sale, but they refused convenience payment, as did the cafe.

Aside from the free parking, this casino is a bust. With more video captured on my drive home along the Strip, a bittersweet day. Though there will be other days, and then I am safe at home.

Movie clips.
