LAS VEGAS DAY FOURTEEN November 24, 2020

Lone Mountain (3,342’) 8X

Up pretty early again, I had had organic English cucumbers with soy sauce for dinner last night. This morning, it was to cook sausage and eggs. Now saving money by grocery shopping, I’ll wait till the spiking infections get lower, before I dine out much again.

On the computer for near most of the morning, I set out to check the register and bag the peak 8X. Going under the Arch again, I took more photos. Then to the Linq charging station, to get the car charged again, and getting a breakfast sandwich in some 10 minutes, I ordered take out and gobbled it up in the car. Done as the Supercharging completed, I was off to Lone Mountain.

Motoring to Vegas Vista Trail, I parked at the trailhead to bag the peak. I made it to the top in some 31 minutes, with my Watch workout app running. The register looked fine, with pages of sign-ins already. I took photos for a record, in case it disappears. Chatting with other hikers, most of them thought this was cool. A few refused to sign, so I support privacy. Some hiker claimed hundreds of ascents, but declined to sign.

As I was headed down, I got a call from some government worker. On my Watch, we conversed about the register. She objected to the way that I mentioned her co-worker, claiming an attack. Okay with the phone number and web address, I said that I’d scribble the name out ASAP. I had just come off the peak, with too many maskless morons, so I deemed going back up there a risk. By her, permission to place the register goes through numerous channels, so approval might take weeks.

If they say no, I will take it down immediately. I just tear off the cover pages, and send the signed pages to Bancroft. The register container will go down as well, as it cost me some $5. They don’t like it that it’s plastic, so if approved, I’d get an ammo box or what else. I explained that I’m a poor person, and can hardly afford a $20 army surplus container, just to have it refused or stolen.

The person started to get redundant, so I pointed this out, and we terminated the call. I then drank some diet soda, and had gotten back into my car. To cross out the names tomorrow, and get this done, as the employee did give me her name. They explained to be protective of staff, and I fully understand. I get death threats and violence from peak bag haters, all in the hiking club brass.

Upset as other Nevada County Parks or the USFS and also the BLM stated to have no big problem with summit registers, except in wilderness areas, this conversation took off some 20 minutes otherwise spent on fun time.

Beelining home, I’d wait for their e-mails as requested. No dining tonight, as I was disturbed at the complaint about the register placement.
