MORE YELLOWSTONE August 9, 2020

Up later than normal, I had some drink out of my cooler, to help get me awake. I decided to head for West Yellowstone, where there was a Supercharger. Motoring in the dawn, I’d make a loop in the park. To stop at many of the sights, and to revisit Old Faithful.

Exiting the park, I found the Superchargers. I had to drive about, and make it the distance to Jackson, WY. I used a gas station restroom, and ate some food. Even the nearby McD’s was closed. Then they opened, and I had an op to get a breakfast sandwich. No indoor dining allowed, so I couldn’t get refills on Diet Coke.

With my charging completed, I motored back into the park. There was the Firehole River side trip, then the various pools and springs. Doing a side loop, I captured a geyser spouting, then another, and this was getting good. Doing more stops, I finally came to the Old Faithful area. Getting to the viewing area, it was shortly to erupt. I could be safe, with plenty of room to stand apart. The geyser went off, and I had my 4K video running, hand held. It was soon over, so I went to stand in line at the lone restroom.

Stopping to talk with a ranger, she then said that they were in the middle of a SAR operation. I offered help, as I did have wilderness first aid training, and she turned away to then ignore me. Another person then walked straight at me, so I backed away. Overweight, with no mask whatsoever, she asked why I did that, and I replied, “Because I’d like to be alive tomorrow.’ She then claimed “rude,” and by then I left.

Going back to my car, I sat and waited for the next show. Having food out of my cooler, I then returned to the viewing area. I captured video again, with now two eruptions. Both about the same, with a good spouting. Then to endure the exiting traffic jam, then clear of the cars, zoomed off to make other stops. I took photos at the Continental Divide signs, all three of them, but I had done this before.

Then to head south out of the park, with a photo stop at a lake. Never any entrance station for Grand Teton National Park, as I didn’t go to the side loop, but did drive up Signal Mountain. The driver of a bus pointed out Two Oceans Peak. My pronunciation of “Togwatee Pass” was corrected. The bus was said to run some $150 from Teton Village, but the driver wasn’t sure, as he didn’t deal with booking. I asked, and he said that he’d driven up here hundreds of times, but doesn’t climb peaks, so I didn’t mention my Thousand Peaks Club. The highpoint here lies under a post, which I touched, but as only true peak baggers would make such a distinction, I guess most people see this as nonsense.

The Gros Ventre campground was reported as full online, so I didn’t waste my time to check this out. Motoring into Jackson, WY, I found the Superchargers by a natural foods store. The restroom was upstairs, but I shopped to kill time. I found some organic Japanese buckwheat noodles, a pecan cookie, and then some Swiss Muesli to take on home. A thought of mine was to buy property here, and enjoy the daily life with the Tetons close by, with luxury homes, probably costing a few million dollars. This store had such friendly, good looking clerks, it was so tempting.

With it being so early in the evening, I made reservations for tonight in Rock Springs, WY. Only a couple hundred miles more to drive there, and it was bargain rates. Taking the highways south, passing through Pinedale, WY, I made a stop for having food in my car. Getting then tired and sleepy, I made random rest stops along the highway. I had run out of caffeine, so I drank 0.0. I pulled in late, a miracle that I hadn’t driven off the road. To my room, I took my shower, brushed my teeth, got my messages, and went to bed.
