MOAB, AND UTAH August 12, 2020

Done now with the passes, it was to head home, and to try to enjoy. The plan had been to go to Taos, and bag Wheeler Peak, but now I was out of position. No camping available at either the north or south rim of the Grand Canyon, and too hot for the Utah Parks. The decision was to head straight home. I made reservations for more bargain lodging in Green River, UT. A favorite stay in the fall, I had drive home from there in a day to Sacramento.

Up by dawn at my motel, I headed for the Supercharger. I sought to get some breakfast. Going to the fast food, the door was locked, despite the sign saying that the dining room was open already. I ordered a meal, then they said that the dining room was closed. The help didn’t say anything about this, as I asked. Upset, I asked for a refund, which they refused. So, I didn’t get refills on diet soda, and this was to affect me later. Having the bacon sandwich in my car, the potatoes were also good. Using the navigator, I motored out of town.

Heading now towards Shiprock, NM, the scenery was magical, Towers and buttes to abound, then a sign indicated a possible side trip to the Four Corners. Too far out of the way for my taste, I then headed for Cortez, CO. I needed rest, food, and drink, so stopped at a fast food. The restroom was out of order, so I left, to look for someplace else. Past the town, there had been nothing further. The next big town was in Monticello, Utah, so I stopped at gas stations.

i started to worry about an accident, then took the U. S. 191 highway north to Moab, UT. Stopping at the Wilson Arch, and then the Hole-in-the Wall resort, I took my photos and pee breaks. Then to the Supercharger by the Moab Italian restaurant, where I got garlic bread with three dips and refills on my diet sodas. No time to walk the town, as it looks to not have changed that much since being here in 2012 or so. There was highway work, then to zoom north on the highway to Interstate 70.

To Green River, UT, with the food and drink, I was feeling better. It could be home tomorrow. I was out of ice, so my timing was right. Resting at the motel, I hoped to get home the many hundreds of miles.
